Amit was 4 years older then me. We grew up together in the Kibbutz. Naturally, he was always one or two steps ahead. He was leading and I was following his steps, trying to learn from him as much as I could.
I learned from him, the first secrets of seamanship. Rowing, sailing, surfing and windsurfing. We were fighting the waves together to get a sailing boat in and out the beach. Capsizing from time to time.
I learned from him the first basics of computer programming. He was the one to pull me out of problems and give the right advice for solving them.
Then Amit joined the navy and became a navy officer.
It was one Friday morning in December 1987, we were notified the Navy ship he was on had a fight with terrorists boat in Lebanon and he was shot and killed.
I followed, his steps till the footprints disappeared on the sandy beach.
Now, 20 years later, I finished the navy service, I've been sailing a lot, I made career from computer programming. I'm following the direction of his steps.
I have 2 kids, and I'm loosing hair, I'm 37 already, and he is always 21.
I can't stop thinking... what if?
So... If yo have things to share... Drop a comment.
Many people knew Amit, from the Navy, school, Sea Scouts, or from his music hobby.
