Yesterday I officially met Ido Dan,
Ido has a firm that does User Interface/Experience design. We had a great meeting.
During this meeting it came out that Ido and me shared some experience around Vsoft, and most of all around eBay. Ido was a one of the user interface designers of eBay and we spoke about what it takes for such dinosaur to move and change it's site experience and functionality.
One of the biggest reasons that came out was the community behavior and the fact that this community is a goose that lays the golden eggs so ... please don't change it's food ingredients even if you think it is for a better one. eBay is in fear about what will the community say. I hope it will change soon.
On the other hand, today, outbrain suggestion feed brought me the this post of A VC speaking about how Facebook deal with such a feature change and a protest of 300,000 users in the community (of 9M users). It is great to read.
As I see it community based applications are created for the community but shell not be the hostage of them. I know, there are people who don't like their cheese is moving every once in a while but there are more people who are expecting you to improve all the time.
